Very funny, sadly its true
The contrast I would make between when I was young(mid seventies to v early eighties) would be the level of drunks. I may be wrong. There was a lot of scrapping, but not every match then but these days it feels like half the away crowd is bladdered and generally inconsiderate, but ironically there is probably less scrapping, certainly in and around the ground. I am not hankering after the old days, at home I think what we have now is a much better overall experience than pre dw/jjb, but away it isnt good. The good thing in life is that we have choices, mine is not to go away, as i dont like the atmosphere, if it was different I would go more and take the kids.
I had similar experiences at old Trafford with my kids, away with kids is just too lairy, wont take them again. It feels worse now than it did when I was a kid in none league and div 4, when I used to go all over the place with my dad. I stick to home games these days.
Will be in my armchair! Enjoy the night everyone
I agree with u vat, never had a problem with away supporters in our end, with a behaviour caveat. For cup games I would either give em both ends or the side if it is a big following, I am not precious about having to sit in my own seat for cup games.
I dont post that often but do read quite a lot. When I decide to try to start contributions I set out to make sure I didn’t get involved I the petty stuff that goes on. I understand how vat must feel here as I find it amazing at how quickly people fire off and how unnecessary a lot of it is. You wouldn’t think that essentially we are all on the same side with some of the insults that get thrown round, things that wouldn’t get said in person. Personally you wont get that from me on here.
I didn’t go today and haven’t been to rotherhams new stadium. It is 12k capacity so is round what some people call for. What’s the verdict from those that went, would you rather have that or the dw?
They might help Grigg bungle one in
Personally I think our stadium is great, great views, decent amount of toilets, pretty accessible by car or transport, good catering(theres a debate) plenty parking, great lounges. I wouldn’t change it and think we are lucky to have what we have.
Compared to what we had at springfield (where I have loads of great memories) it is a different class, access was rubbish, bovril and a wagon wheel was about all you could get (because the pie got thrown at the linesman), steep slope if you wanted to get off the ground towards lower ground, toilets that where just a channel in the ground etc.
If we then compare it to local competition, it is better than Bolton’s for access and viewing (their bottom tier is really shallow ) although externally theirs looks good, but their parking is a mare.
Preston? same capacity as ours so presumably the same empty seat issue, rubbish access.
Blackpool? bigger than they need, Blackburn? bigger than they need, Burnley, full when they are in the prem but a bit delapedated these days and same sort of size.
Don’t think we can then be compared with the liverpool and manchester teams.
That leaves other ‘new stadiums’ and beyond chester which has about 6k and is rubbish I can’t really think of other local football ones.
Then you look at other local clubs, would you rather have oldhams, rochdales or tranmere’s grounds? Not for me thanks, we may have a few too many seats but I think we should be delighted with what we have.
Others clearly disagree!
We normally get mince pies free on boxing day, there’s a treat.
Brilliant story this. It does highlight the tough side of a footballers life, legging it to get to the hospital, no real Christmas that we would consider normal due to fixtures etc. Having said that I wish I had had been good enough for that!
I give something about it, i really enjoyed the women’s tournament this summer, found it really entertaining and don’t see how anyone can have a problem with the women’s game. You dont have to watch it, read about it or anything.
I’ve been impressed with jones, I was even thinking he may keep his place when Walton was fit. Dont think the keeper position is a problem one for us. I do think we lack a genuinely high quality striker, Grigg is only ok, and toney looks out of his depth. Either of dack or graham from Blackburn would get in up front for us
Good/bad old days, dependent on how you look at it! Funny how things like that stick in the mind
Ha ha Kevin lynch! Did he once send four off from the other side at Springfield? He was proper dreadful!cant remember who against
