Funny, I was thinking about Chimpbonda when I was writing my post. Eould have loved to have seen DW (for a rare moment) stay true to his words – unlike Kone’s alleged comments, old Chimmy really did do the dirty on us and DW still “caved” for just £4m.
To be frank this board wouls have gone into meltdown if DW would have waited that long although it would of been a good appointment none the lessTrue, but not like much has happened this week has it since Owen was announced except that the “squad” is off on a jolly to the US for a week. I’d have happily waited a week for Poyet.

I’m a grey side if that’s a valid term, but lifelong to say we’ve reached our peak is nonsense.
10 years ago we thought we’d peaked when we got promoted to the Ch’ship. 8 years we thought that when we got promoted to the Prem. Going 2nd, getting to Cardiff, going top, getting to the FA Cup semi, getting to the final, getting into Europe, winning the cup. Who knows where we might go next?
I actually think going down is the step back we need to really launch forward, provided we can get back up within 2 seasons.
Alternatively we could just sod the Ch’ship next season, concentrate on the Europa cup, win it and bag ourselves a Champions league spot ;)
I thought Boselli was out of contract too, so surprised to see him retained.

I’d definitely have him back to get us up, but he’s not a long term solution as he would unravel or at best mothball all the hard work that’s gone on behind the scenes.
Very very strange comments by Whelan, but there must be something behind them.
First off it appears he’s settled for just £1.5m instead of £2m – shades of the no less than £6m for Chimbonda (and Baines I think).
Then he announces that Bob is going, much to the annoyance of Everton.
Then he says they can try to buy our players but only for the right price (which based on the above will be £1-£2m less than the first price he blurts out.
But he also says that he thinks we have a lot of loyal players.Either he’s gone totally loopy (not unlikely), or he is goading Everton as they have a limited transfer budget, whilst showing any future Wigan manger that there will be a chance for them to stamp their mark, cull unwanted/uncommitted players and generate decent transfer funds.
Re: Bob’s silence, the same thing happened last year. When it comes to his own future he plays his cards very very close to his chest. In some ways that’s the gent in him – he doesn’t fuel media speculation – but his silence also creates speculation and also makes you wonder if he really is in as strong a position as being made out.
Either way I think I’ve moved on already – not sure I’d want him to stay now apart from to keep our squad intact.

Most of my reading/posting done while commuting, in bed or on the bog, none of which lends itself to a bigger machine!I don’t think we’ll recognise the team that walks out for the Community Shield.Oh come on, everyone knows who Man Utd are! :P
