……..After 8 years in the top flight and 12 years in the top two divisions, is this as far as youth development has reached?I’m not sure those timescales apply, as we only really appeared to start taking this seriously when Martinez came in. Remember, Jewell had “taken us as far as he could” and hadn’t implemented the structure, and then Bruce wanted to shop in Harrods !
With regard to “is this as far as”…….. well, obviously yes …….and it appears to be going in an upward direction.
Though it sounds good strikes me that the LFA Youth cup is a pretty sub standard competition played in by the likes of Bury, Rochdale, Tranmere and Preston rather than teams who have good Academy status. It’s a joke that after so long in the top division we haven’t built a better standard youth set up and despite all the ramblings I’m yet to hear a definitive answer on why the Charnock Richard training ground isn’t near completion. Poor hindsight which will now come back and bite us now we have to nurture our own.As the Yanks might say ……. Way to go bigroy ! ……… Not .
