Not that I take too much notice of Le Tissier, but he never once looked like he believed Latics would have a shot on target today, let alone score.
They flags are taken down after every game, it’s their way of making themselves not feel like lodgers.
The attitude of that Spurs fan sums up everything that’s wrong with the Premier League.
He’d happily throw out clubs like Latics, Bolton and Blackburn, simply because they have smaller fanbases, yet the sum of his clubs ambition is to finish in the top four, something they’ve yet to achieve.
‘Conroy wrote:Latics average around the same number of HOME fans as Wigan.’
‘With cheaper tickets, a better atmosphere because of the away fans, and also the fact that they are over achieving as a club, while we have been under achieving for quite some time.’
I didn’t realise the rugby were paying upto £30 per game!
I also like how they spin underachievement, they’ve been in many semi-finals over the years, anyone would think they’ve missed out on the play-offs for a decade.
When the 3 for £30 offer was on the Fulham game attracted 16k home fans, this on a Sunday afternoon, played at the same time as the live TV game between Utd and Chelsea.
Replicate that against Liverpool and there would be at least 21k on.
At £30 a ticket many pay on the day fans aren’t even going to consider going, as for families, yeah I’m sure they’ll happily pay anything upto £100 for a Latics game, not.
I’m all for trying to get more people in but….”incentives for those who commit to more than a single game”, what’s all that about, come to 2 games and get 3 free??? We play 19 home games a season, our season isnt just about when Utd/Liverpool/Arsenal come to town. Our ST prices are low enough, if you can be 99% certain of getting to at least 15 home games, there’s no excuse for not paying less than £20 a game.
Last season, during the season run in, Blackburn were offering something like 3 games for £30. As a result they packed out Ewood Park, stayed up, and have retained much of that support this season.
At Latics the options appear to be, pay upfront for a £250 season ticket, or expect to pay upto £30 per game.
We don’t have 20k potential season ticket holders to take up such a great offer, but we do have a great many potential fans who wish to come to a game or two, or take their kids along.
Up and down the country clubs are creative with their ticket pricing and offers, yet the one club that desperately needs such things, Latics, stick to a ridgid ‘take it or leave it’ approach.
If a dad wanted to take his son along to the Liverpool game he’d be charged anything upto £50, that’s if the ticket office would sell him a ticket in the first place.
Such pricing may have been justified if the game was a potential sell-out, yet I bet there isn’t 20k on, with thousands watching at home or in the pub.
Blackburn and Fulham have turned around similar situations, it’s time Latics did too.
Rather than trying to cash in on certain games we should have season long offers for season ticket holders and incentives for those who commit to more than a single game.
In difficult financial times we’ve done much right this season, but still seem too reliant on initial season ticket sales, with little effort to build support throughout the season.
Whatever happens this season Kirkland, Caldwell, McCarthy and Moses will be the future of Latics.
As a Latics fan I’d sooner watch these players in the Championship than certain others in the Premiership.
Better still I’ll be watching them in Latics colours in the Premiership next season.
We missed Boyces pace on Sunday, Melchiot is technically a better player, but he can’t get up and down the field like he once did.
Each time I turn on the TV, open a newspaper, or listen to the radio there is some smarmy **** talking Latics down, we don’t need our own fans doing it.
If we’d have threw in the towel when things were tough during previous seasons we wouldn’t even have won Premiership promotion, let alone stayed in this division.
The club IS imploding. And if you think we will survive this season, then you are more deluded than he is!
We’ve just gone a handfull of games unbeaten, then lost to Spurs.
The only ones imploding are those who can’t cope with a little pressure.
22 February 2010 at 3:18 pm in reply to: Well Superfans, the Spaniard led us yet another defeat. #23699If we were offered our current league position, with similar forthcoming fixtures, during our first Premiership season, most would snatch their hand off.
It’s no use arguing we should be pushing on by now, we’re back to square one, staying up is the only goal.
Not unless our relegation rivals are suddenly going to start picking up more than a point per game, and beat us in the process.
Are West Ham home and dry now, afterall they were in a worse position than us two games back, it just shows how quickly things can change.
We aren’t a good team, haven’t been for the past 12 months, nor for the majority of our time in this division.
But right now being good isn’t the goal, bettering the points tally of three other Premiership teams is.
Unlike some previous matches, there weren’t many complaints until we hit the 80 minute mark.
We didn’t play well, but could have got something out of the game.
