Very good these fans when he’s scoring, you soon forgot the debacle over the Birmingham move and you’ll be out with the knives again come January.
Shop window or no shop window, you play your best players whilst they are still able to wear the shirt. I said the same about Chimbonda at the start of our second prem season.
And at least he’s shop windowing himself in every game, well in advance of January, unlike Figueroa, Valencia and Palacios a couple of seasons back who only decided to played well close to the window whenever we were playing the top 6.If Nzog goes in January he goes – no knives though. I haven’t forgotten about the Brum debacle, but wasn’t upset then as I’m pleased he didn’t join a relegation rival. I do wished tho he had joined a bigger club as I now wouldn’t be worrying about the goal drought he’ll leave. Had he gone in the summer we’d have had a more stable line up earlier on, as we arguably played two of our best games when he was left out of the side at the back end of August.
We actually won 2-1 against Blackburn if the ref and linesman had any idea about the rules, Charlie’s goal should have stood and Roberts was a yard off side ! We had 65% posession and played some nice stuff, well done Wigan, major improvement on last week (as it needed to be) and if we carry on like that we’ll be fine. Not if we lose N’Zogbia (injury/sale) we won’t. Only one scoring any goals.
I’m still baffled by reading this message board how Nzog seems to be a vital part of the team. The last few matches I have paid particular attention to him and the amount of times he gives the ball away is unreal. If he can’t cut inside he’s buggered and very limited dribbling wise.Well he is the only one scoring any goals (given and disallowed)…I’d say that was pretty vital, wouldn’t you?
They said he runs the channels well but is always looking for the free kick and often ends up on the floor holding his hands up when he should be chasing back.
You can’t turn back the clock I’m afraid, leave him a be. :roll:He used to do that with us though too and he was still class player.
We turned the clock back for Arry and that worked out very well.
We are missing an experienced talisman – N’Zog has the makings of one but he won’t be around for long. Roberts fits the bill perfectly.I can’t deny that yesterday’s performance was worse than dreadful, and I certainly don’t agree with the bulk of Martinez’s tactics, but let’s put things into perspective eh?
2 years ago at this stage of the season, under Bruce, we were 18th with 8 points. And ended up “pushing for Europe” ;)
1 year ago at this stage we were 12th with 13 points and out of the Carling Cup.
So currently, on paper and in comparison to the last 2 years we are doing OK. Granted we don’t have the benefit of 3 clubs defo worse than us, but we have only lost 1 in 9 or 10 and we’ve had the benefit of a cup run to give more players a run out and try some different things.
At the start of the season my view was that we needed to do 3 things to improve, and if you look at games post Chelsea we are getting there:
1. Shore up the defence – started to happen until the Caldwell’s joined the starting line up recently
2. Get results from the teams around us – bar Fulham we have, though the last 2 draws should have been wins
3. Get back to back wins – not yet, but at least we’ve had a string of back to back resultsMy prediction was that by Fulham we’d have 10 points (beating Blackpool, losing to Spurs, losing to Brum, drawing with Fulham).
I also think that of the last 4 games, 1 win, 2 close draws and 1 loss is not bad for us. If we can get 4-5 points from the next 3 then that won’t be too shabby either.Wenger’s philosophy this season is to go for everything this season, and there was only one other prem side in the last 16 that put out a stronger team than us – Arsenal.
We will have to be at our very very best (even if he disrespects ;) us by putting out the kids) esp. as the game is only a few days after West Ham away.
Why is this pointless thread even on this section of the forum?
Who’s not calm? Seems pretty genteel (even quiet) on here at the mo.
What a bunch of sanctimonious pricks. As if that video would make any difference at all.
Half of the adjectives they used could be used to describe scousers in general.
Cherry on the cake that really made me p1ss myself was when Russ Abbot popped up!Couldn’t agree with you more Horc.
I remember posting summat last season saying how I missed rivals cos at least back then we generally stuck together and took any anger out on the opposition instead of each other.
….course we were also very successful for most of those years as well so generally had less to moan and fight about.
Can’t say I miss those bl00dy boing boing baggies tho.
I agree, however, the Everton and Liverpool wins were made sweater by the fact that some of my mates support them. It was great to have something to reply to all their wins with!!Likewise re: Liverpool – 3 of my best mates are all Liverpool fans (tho only 1 is actually from Liverpool), not to mention my wife and all her family (4 brothers, all from Southampton/Bristol ?!*!).
Good point Duke – whilst very satisfying, it didn’t feel like a “Big Four” scalp to me.
That said, neither did our win vs Liverpool.Maybe there’s only really a Big Three now.
Anyway, back to the original subject…
…did you see the reaction of the players to his double save? Haven’t seen Kirkland get praise like that for…well, never.
Hope the loan recall rumour is just that.
Maybe others have blissfully passed me by, but until a couple of days ago the only “rival” fan I’d noticed on here since Rivals was IBG (and maybe Richard Cheeseman, though I think they are one and the same).
Then in the space of as many days who should appear? 2 “rival” fans, both with similar names – brumifan/leedsfan – and with similar types of posts/language.
The work of a cheeky multiposter methinks.
Shame it took Martinez until this transfer window to realise it…
