Speaking to fans of other clubs, namely Villa, Everton and Sunderland, they all feel hard done by on MOTD. I think they concentrate on the Big four and maybe if you get a thrilling game you will be up top.
Best to watch SKY goals on sunday if you have the subscription.
It aint just us, no one really like MOTD unless your a glory hunting armchair fan from the home counties.
Since I gave up my Sky subscription I only have MOTD.
I also live in Buckinghamshire and have a very comfy armchair. :oops:For pure undulterated joy and emotion my top 3 are:
1. Ellington’s goal against Reading that sealed promotion to the Premier League
2. Unsworth’s penalty to keep us in the Premier League
3. Robert’s goal at Highbury (I was in the car driving away from the ground and heard it on the radio, almost crashed)To prove my credentials as a superfan:
1. Tommy Gore at Chelsea in the Cup 1980
2. Maurice Whittle against Sheff Weds circa 77/78
3. Any of the five goals we scored against Port Vale after being 3-0 down in the early eightiesThomas is our Henry …… the one that got sent off ;)Did anyone notice how lucky Thomas was not to get sent off in the second half? He was already on a yellow when he committed a foul part way through the second half, just in front of ES5. The ref went straight to his top pocket, but then waved play on for the advantage to Wolves. Thankfully the ball remained in play for a good few minutes and he got away with it!
If we’d gone down to ten men at that stage it could all have been very different.
Maurice Whittle vs. Sheff Wednesday 1977the first time I was allowed to go to a football match on my own instead of with my dad – exciting, frightening, ultimately exhilarating; the first day of the rest of my life
Now that’s a memory for me too. Not that I was old enough to go without my dad (only 8 yrs old). It is the very first goal I can remember from Springfield Park, although my dad reckons I went to the games when younger. Now here’s where I embarrass myself – wasn’t it from a free kick just outside the box?
And the ‘Martinez out’ brigade return to their former glories(sic). These were the same ones that came on here and sallowed their pride to give Martinez a bit of praise after the Hertlepool (potential banana skin), Spurs (excellent display and win) and Sunderland (well battled point from a team that cam for one thing).
Aren’t they??
Oh no they didn’t, they crawled back into their hole because they coudn’t think of anything negative say… I wish you would go and suppoprt Chelsea or Arsenal or any other team that might win a league/trophy/get in Europe as this sis what you obviously want to see from “your team”.
As you can see I am usually a reader of the site nopt a poster, but by the crin you idiots need to get a reality check and stop dissing our football club. Get behing the club or go find one that you can get beihind. You’ve ben told ALREADY – HE AINT GUNNA BE SACKED and he certainly wont resign from bully boy keyboard warrior scare mongering tactics, get over it, get past it and get on with it.
Well said that man.
Whenever I go into my local there’s usually somewhere between 12 and 25 people in there. However, the loudest voices are the miserable feckers who like to moan (inc. the landlord  ) . 20 odd others are just out for the night.
This site’s a bit like that. A few that make a lot of noise and then a majority that just get on with supporting the club.
I still don’t know if Martinez is right for us, or not. I’ve certainly been really angry at some of our performances. However, I still get behind my team and support them. I don’t boo, or rant anonymously from behind my keyboard.
Losing 2-0 to a team full of superstars that cost ten times more than ours (*not actually worked this out. It may be more) isn’t too bad in my books, even at home
I’ll be more inclined to lose faith if we get beat by Bolton, Blackburn, Wolves, WBA, etc.
To be honest going into this game I would of been happy with a draw but seeing has they had a man sent off within the first 30 minutes we really should’ve taken advantage but there keeper (who I’ve never heard of, thought he was a reserve keeper), had the game of his life. Also, that Boselli miss was terrible. :o
There keeper was brilliant, lucky us
It’s 2 points lost for sure, almost everyone on this site expected a Wigan victory.
If you read the thread where folk made predictions for this game you’ll find only 3 out of 10 predicted a win and one of them was you.
5 out if 10 actually predicted 1-1.
Bloody clever us Wiganers.
Me, I put money in 0-0.
Just seen this on SSN, “Paul Scharner says he can leave West Brom for free if one of seven clubs come in for him.”
Hasn’t even kicked a ball yet and already issuing his usual ‘come and get me’ plea to try and get his much sought after move to a bigger club.
I hope their fans fcking slaughter him.
What a prat he is.
”The Wigan papers have caused all the anomosity between the football and the Rugby Supporters over the years”.
Couldn’t agree more, have noticed before now in the letters section, a really controversial letter in favour of one club always has “name and address supplied”….to me thats employee told to right something, cos they need to fill some space in a later edition so start something controversial and get geniune people writing in.
How come Latics dont have a letters column like the chubbies do although i have noticed it’s always the same
three fans who write
That’s ‘cos there’s only three of them that can write :D
To be fair, although he was always a centre half, he did offer some energy from midfield. Especially in his first full season (2006/07) For example when he got that double at Goodison and scored the opener at Bramall Lane.He chipped in with the odd goal, which was vital considering we’ve never been high in goals in the top flight.
The only way his sideways (arguably backwards, although there’s already a thread on this debate) move to West Brom will be a success for him (from his point of view) is if he plays, plays in central midfield and doesn’t fall out with anyone.
With Brunt, Morrisson and Dorrans on the books, the centre midfield part of the equation looks ruled out already.
I’d agree with the energy bit, but the type of goals he got had little to do with that. Plenty of defenders can score goals.
He could certainly get about the field and could go on some decent runs with the ball, but there was never a clinical pass, thru’ ball, or cross at the end of it.
Central defender all day long for me.
…just can’t imagine that Holloway would allow a player to be signed with an insistance that he plays in any set position.
Don’t see that it’s any of Holloway’s business, really :?

I think he might be getting him confused with Kingson going to Blackpool!!!! :lol:He’s bob on though in his assessment of Scharner & I’d have loved to have seen Scharner’s face when he asked his agent how many of these “big” clubs were interested in his services!!!!!
I always thought it was interesting that our 3 worst performances in the top flight over the course of a season or period of time all came when Scharner was used predominantly as a midfielder – Under Jewell in our second season up, under Chris Hutchings & last year under Bobby. Gotta be more than coincidence!!
Thanks TL.
Yep, I certainly did confuse them!
Old age hasn’t been kind to me.
””Now it’s up to me because I’m signed as a midfielder and this is my best position”No it isn’t Mr Scharner – never has been & never will be and that won’t change no matter how often you tell everybody
Spot on. Headless and chicken are the only two words to describe Scharner in midfield. He should check the small print in his contract as I just can’t imagine that Holloway would allow a player to be signed with an insistance that he plays in any set position.
Love to be a fly on the wall the first time he’s asked to play in defence.
Football finances for the hard of thinking…so the club gets 40 mill from sky, which in turn whelan then gives in a loan back to us ?
that not ilegal griff,
its the clubs money or am i missing something, because if whelan gave us 40 mill loan and we get 40 mill from sky thats 80 mill
and would cover everything please enlighten griff.Clearly Griff you failed to realise just how ‘hard of thinking’ some people on here are!
Strike that. Just seen it on the official site.
Where have you heard this?
Oh yeah, I’ll start with MK Dons away (but very near home for me).
