  • in reply to: which players will leave? #113826

In my opinion I don’t think we’ll lose as many as we think, but that will depend on whether señor Martinez stays or not. Lets say he does stay, I can see him tempting quite a few with ‘give it until January’ routine. By which time those said players will know whether we are in with a chance of promotion and/or still in Europe or not. Whether we think Europe is a hindrance or not, these foreigners like playing in Europe, or so they seem to say when they come here. Of the ones we are suspecting/believing will go, here are my opinions if Martinez does indeed decide to stay:

Figueroa – off, prob to Hull
Alcaraz – stay (I for one haven’t seen him linked anywhere else)
    Stam – released
    Di Santo – released
    Maloney – stay
    McCarthy – stay
    McArthur – stay
    McManaman – stay
    Kone – stay

I have it on good authority that Uniteds Nick Powell is down for a season next year whilst I can prob see Joel coming back on loan. I have also heard that Martinez has offered to scrap the wage reduction for those who intend to be affected by relegation. All of the above does depend on whether he stays or goes though. So it is indeed a big if.

Add to those, some other hungry Championship/League1 players, then I don’t believe we’ll be that far off.

Might not have been the real Victor Moses Account but defo the real Gareth Bale one backing our corner.

Says playing in the frenh league is lower than ligue 1.

Surely Joey can’t argue with the best player of the last 12 months!!

Does anyone know if the club are buying tickets back for those who can’t go?

in reply to: For Once It seems the Draw Gods Smile On Us? #104920

We dont want Chelsea in the final. They are far from guaranteed a Champions League spot and therefore should they miss out on the top 4 come the end of the season, will take what would have been our Europa spot.

We could just win it though i suppose….

    in reply to: McGeady #102027

Something tells me McGeady will be going back to Celtic, and in turn Hooper will then be allowed to join Norwich.

A double negative as far as we’re concerned if you ask me.

    Di Santo please fook off

Henriquez and Espinoza – There is hope !!

I know it’s early days and the first time i’ve seen him but, do you think there is hope with Espinoza?
Plenty of effort but, i didn’t see any quality with him today. Maybe he was trying too hard [/quote]

I think Espinoza showed today why James McArthur needs to feel very worried about keeping his place. Man of match on his debut against Bournemouth and transformed our midfield today. On first impressions, very pleasing indeed.

Wonder how McArthur felt in his new right midfield berth.

    in reply to: Reaction #100476
Very poor first half despite the early fluke goal and we cannot keep blaming refs -we were crap for 45 minutes and that was enough to lose this game today.
We made a very very ordinary team look like world beaters and conceded bloody awful goals.Stam was the best player in the first half ( never though I’d ever say that) which shows you how bad we were. there is no cutting edge and unless some transfer business is done sharpish to turn this damn awful season around then I’m afraid relegation is a certainty. All the other clubs around us are investing and having a go and we continue with our skinflint transfer policy signing kids from UnitedS youth team and randoms from America!!!!!!.
Feel sorry for BOB having to continually make do and mend and this policy we see us off this year I’m sure.
No miracle turnaround this season with this bunch so we may has well go hell for leather in the FA cup as our swansong before relegation.

Got to be honest though, the random from America ( I assume you mean Espinoza) looks a very good prospect for the team. Added some much needed urgency into a team that once again showed are totally bereft of ideas when they finally reach the final third.

It is worrying, and like I said the other day on one of the columns, it is not a striker I feel we miss, it’s a player capable of advancing with the ball with either the ability to unlock opposition defences or have the ability to beat a man. We are relying far too heavily on Maloney.

in reply to: just seen #100213

For me I think we need to give Becchio a wide berth.

Glorified penalty taker springs to mind.

I don’t think it’s a striker we actually need. We replaced Valencia with N’Zogbia. We replaced N’Zogbia with Moses. We have replaced Moses with…..

Players who would take the ball forward and actually beat a man a chip in with the odd goal. None, possibly only Shaun Maloney is capable of that at present. I say take a punt on one these numerous Spanish lads we’re linked with although I admit I haven’t seen any of them play!!

    in reply to: Bournemouth #100020

Personally i think Bobby will field a stronger side than he did in the first game but still with plenty of fringe players included.

If he resorts to a side similar to that of the first game then i fear Bournemouth’ endeavour will get the win. However, in the case as mentioned in the above paragraph, i feel we will win quite comfortably given the extra quality on the pitch and th fact that Bournemouth coming at us strong will suit our counter attacking perfectly.

Here’s a vaild point though, already knowing that the next match is away at Macclesfield, does this not give Roberto another opportunity to try out youngsters/fringe players? That lends itself to ensuring victory tonight. If not, the youngsters are back in the dark until the 2nd round of the league cup next season.

in reply to: Youth development #99299
I thought Roberto’s comments yesterday were bob on as per usual.

I thought Golobart and Routledge did really well!

Fyvie was fairly quiet along with Gomez who was completely absent for periods.

    Jones was uninspired….

Mcmanaman struggled to break down a team at a much lower level.

Stam was absolutely terrible and for the last 15 minutes showed a serious lack of respect for the club trotting about while Henqiquez had to run back to defend against the left winger on the edge of the box.

If I was his manager id of leathered him as soon as he got down the tunnel for that.

IMO its some of the senior players who didn’t turn up yesterday and putting my own and others opinions aside it seems to be the usual suspects in Stam, Gomez and Boselli.

Although I still maintain Boselli had no service whatsoever and think its naive to say he should create something for himself when that’s not his job his job is to hang on the shoulder of a defender and take chances as they come in for him.

+ his movement was typically good yesterday if you kept an eye on him while Ronald Mcdonald was doing his clown act on the right side.

Whilst refraining from getting involved in this cock fight I would just like to add that it was Danny Redmond that played yesterday and not John Routledge. And very well he did too for 45 mins.

    Just saying like…..

And, if anyone comes in at all, it will be a right wing back, mark my words.

Why, when Martinez says we have the best squad he’s ever had here (and he is bob on, see what I did there?) would he suddenly want, and be allowed, to splash daft cash?

This squad (minus Moses) proved what it can do at the back end of last season. It’s about time it started to do it again.

    Think you may be right…

The lad from Barsnley springs to mind. John Stones.

in reply to: no where near good enough #98833

I actually don’t think we played too badly today.

Don’t get me wrong we didn’t deserve to get anything from it but the 4 0 was a harsh scoreline.

Each goal we conceded today had a massive element of luck involved that all favoured united. Evra scuffed his first shot that dropped nicely for him to shoot. McArthur played the ball against Figs which dropped nicely for van persie. Third was a shite free kick that turned into a perfect half volley for Hernandez and fourth Beausejour decided to take Figs when he was free to clear it.

Yes there were some excellent finishes in there but my god they didn’t half get the rub of the green today.

in reply to: Everton Ticket Prices #98572

    Thanks very much chaps.

Got told they are only on sale for us at our ticket office until 12pm tomorrow then the rest go back for pay on the day.

Still that might be a lot of tosh. I’ll pop up in’t morning anycase.

    Cheers again.

Right, I’ve waited until now so I can calm down a bit and not be accused of making a knee-jerk reaction.

That last night, was a disgrace. It really was. As soon as we saw the team Martinez had put out, we were rolling our eyes at each other and thinking “Oh oh, this could be TOO weak a team”.

But then you looked at it, and it consisted of our first choice keeper, a first choice centre-back, the rest of the side was mainly players with enough first team action, apart from McManaman and Redmond. Whilst up front, we had the 6 million Boselli. Surely it would be enough to beat Bradford. But no. Apart from Al-Habsi, Watson, and Ramis, I don’t think any of them performed anywhere near good enough. I can’t understand how some folk on here have slated Watson. FFS! He was asked to play centre-half when he’s a bloody midfielder! Here’s a blunt assessment of the team.

AL HABSI-No criticism. Did nothing wrong.
    RAMIS-No Criticism.
WATSON-Filled in admirably at the back, no criticism.
    LOPEZ-Didn’t do much wrong really.
STAM-Looked out of his depth. Always seems to have to really bust a gut to beat a man and get a ball over. Not good enough.
REDMOND-Young lad’s not good enough yet.
JONES-Poor. Very avearage against a League 2 side.
    GOMEZ-Poor. Just not good enough.
FYVIE-Poor. Looked nowhere near good enough.
MCMANAMAN-Did ok first half, but doesn’t look Premiership standard.
BOSELLI-Abysmal. Looked nowhere near good enough.

Subs: MALONEY-livened things up, BEAUSEJOUR-Lively but I’m not convinced he’s good enough. ORSULA-Waste of a sub, going into penalties. Surely Kone would’ve been better?

For me, Stam, Jones, Gomez, and Boselli should NEVER play for us again. I will give Fyvie a chance, as he’s only a young lad. Looked ordinary to me though.

Whatever way people dress it up, it was embarrassing. It DID show contempt for Bradford by playing such a weak side, a total lack of respect. I recall going to Villa Park, circa 1994 in the same competition. We were then a bottom flight club, Barrow had just taken over as manager, and as a club we were on our arses near the bottom of the entire league. Did Aston Villa play a weak team against us? No. Ron Atkinson played his stars, and they did us 5-0 with goals from Dalian Atkinson 2, Dean Saunders, Dwight Yorke, and Nii Lamptey. They well and truly hammered us. But at the same time, showed us a great deal of respect.

And that is exactly what we should’ve done to Bradford. Played a strong side, won by 4 or 5, and played some class football. We may have gained some confidence from it as well.

But no. It was a shambles. It’ll be the last cup match I go to for a while, unless it’s a semi or a final. The worst thing about last night? (For me, personally) I’ve just got my 6 year old fully interested in Latics and going to the match. He was so fed up and looked absolutely p’d off last night, I don’t think he will want to go again. I don’t blame him, actually.

F****** un-defendable, that shower last night. No clever reasoning or smart-arsed comment will convince me otherwise. Just NOT acceptable at all and I wish Whelan would fire a rocket up Martinez for it.

Absolutely spot on all of that.

His ignorance and arrogance well and truly caught up with him last night.

I am a big fan, but just like one poster mentioned earlier, the fans need something to smile about every once in a while and i cant help but feel we have thrown away a fantastic opportunity for him to do just that.
